Y estoy aludiendo a un singular escritor francés, que se adelantó a su tiempo y que falleció en 1905. Se llamó Julio Verne.
Había nacido el 8 de febrero 1828.
Verne estudió simultáneamente dos carreras: Letras y Derecho, y joven aun se doctoró en ambas. Pero jamás las ejerció y casi ni las mencionó.
El solo quería ser escritor.
A los 25 años publicaba en un periódico francés no muy importante, una tira diaria que había titulado “Cinco Semanas en Globo”.
Y la suma de esas publicaciones del diario, se transformaron en un libro con ese título.
Le llegó el éxito, el bienestar económico y el prestigio.
Escribía a un promedio de una obra por año.
A los 38 años, publicó “De la Tierra a la Luna” donde predecía con una lucidez excepcional y ¡100 años de antelación! la increíble aventura del hombre llegando a la luna.
Pero además en ese libro y no es poco, profetizó que serían 3 los astronautas que llegarían primero a ese misterioso y desconocido lugar.
Y todavía, calculó con exactitud la velocidad que desarrollaría el vehículo espacial.
Salieron también de su pluma otros libros: “Veinte mil Leguas de Viaje en Submarino -¡cuando aun no existía el submarino!- ”. Y también “La Vuelta al Mundo en 80 Días”.
Hay además otro aspecto a destacar en su obra. Sus personajes son siempre nobles y siempre intrépidos, sin caer jamás en exageraciones.
Había en ellos un fondo de humanidad y altruismo.
Pero él no hacía a sus personajes totalmente perfectos. Porque comprendía que el hombre virtuoso, lo es, porque posee muchas virtudes, pero no todas las virtudes.
Su estilo literario -que muchos adolescentes hemos disfrutado- era ameno y chispeante.
Julio Verne no escapó a las feroces críticas de sus colegas escritores y tampoco al disenso de los científicos.
Estos argumentaban que su imaginación era tan fantasiosa como poco creíble.
Otros lo calumniaban por envidia, que es en definitiva una admiración disimulada.
Y se llega a un episodio incomprensible aunque quizá relacionado con lo que acabo de expresar.
Verne tenía 58 años y una noche estaba entrando a su casa, de regreso de una conferencia.
Repentinamente, un hombre lo insultó groseramente sin motivo alguno.
El escritor se sorprendió, naturalmente y sólo atinó a decirle.´
-“¡Ud. está confundido!”
El hombre, que era un escritor frustrado, sacó una pistola y un balazo dio en la rodilla del escritor, que cayó sobre la vereda.
Renguearía toda su vida.
Es que “cuando los lobos abundan, los corderos parecen desentonar”.
Julio Verne siguió escribiendo, hasta pasados largamente los 70 años.
Y llegó el 24 de marzo de 1905.
Con 77 años ocupaba un puesto de consejero municipal en la ciudad de Amiens, a 300 Km de París.
En un atardecer lluvioso le dijo a su ayudante
-“Hoy no te diré hasta mañana. Solamente adiós”. Jamás saludaba así.
Y Julio Verne que pudo profetizar tantas cosas, quizás intuyó también su propia muerte.
Esa misma noche moría serenamente, este visionario increíble que vio el futuro mucho antes que sus contemporáneos, gracias a su singular talento.
Y este ser humano, que tanto ayudó al progreso de la humanidad, trae a mi mente este aforismo.
“Muchos miran sin ver. Pocos ven, sin mirar”.
