“Seres que volaron alto dejaron huellas muy profundas…”
Quizá Mercedes Sosa fue la mayor voz del canto foclórico argentino.
Falleció hace poco tiempo, en Octubre del 2009. Dejó el recuerdo de sus notables y sobre todo personales interpretaciones con lo que logró que se insertaran inicialmente en el folklore nacional y que posteriormente se arraigaron profundamente en el folklore latinoamericano.
Tenía ya 74 años. Problemas hepáticos y renales ocasionaron su deceso.
La magnitud de su trayectoria artística la ratifica el hecho, que se decidió que su velatorio se realizara en el Congreso de la Nación y con honores de embajadora.
En los últimos diez años de su vida, sus problemas de salud dificultaron en alto grado su trayectoria artistica, pero no opacaron en absoluto su hermosa voz de contralto.
Entre sus virtudes, diría que fue una mujer siempre cercana a lo social y con convicciones políticas firmes, que, acertadas o no, defendió con todas las desventajas que podían significarle.
Y lo pagó con censuras, con listas negras e incluso con algún sabotaje a sus espectáculos.
Afrontó todo con entereza, hasta el exilio de su patria, el mayor castigo para alguien que amaba tanto a su tierra.
Una prueba más de su alma solidaria, es que en los últimos momentos de su exitosa carrera, decidió grabar “Canción para un niño en la calle”, como para hacernos reflexionar sobre una problemática que muchísimos miran sin ver.
Poco antes de exiliarse por fuerza y subir al avión que la ubicaría en Madrid, donde vivió 4 años de penosa soledad, grabó “Serenata para la tierra de uno” que se editó en el exterior.
Cuando pudo volver de Europa al comenzar el año 1982, puede decirse, que fue un regreso con gloria… Como que llenó 13 veces el escenario del amplio teatro Opera.
Fue un verdadero reverdecer luminoso en la vida de la artista.
Ella tenía frases que revelaban su profundidad.
Decía por ejemplo:
-“El canto no es solamente un problema de voz, sino de personalidad. Cantar se aprende con la vida misma”.
O cuando expresaba:
-“Un artista es un mundo de colores y sonidos. Captamos la belleza, la tristeza, las emociones, las alegrías y el dolor del pueblo. Todo eso penetra en el artista y es lo que expresa cuando canta”.
Para dar una idea concreta de su dimensión como cantante, mencionaré que actuó en el Lincoln Center y en el Carnegie Hall en los EE.UU., en el Coliseo de Roma y en nuestro Teatro Colón. Que obtuvo entre numerosos premios el “Martín Fierro”, el “Konex” de platino y varios “Grammy”.
Y tuvo también otros premios muy especiales, además de diplomas y medallas.
Fue el hecho de haber participado en grabaciones con Luciano Pavarotti, con Andrea Bocelli, con Alfredo Kraus, con Caetano Veloso, y con muchos otros grandes del canto.
Haydee Mercedes Sosa –que así se llamaba- había nacido un 9 de julio de 1935 y era descendiente de franceses e indios diaguitas.
Había sido en su adolescencia Profesora de danzas nativas. Su consagración total como cantante la logró en el festival de Cosquín de 1965. Tenía, entonces 30 años.
Su muerte, en ese día de octubre de 2009, “fue uno de esos días que se cierran, para no abrirse”. Porque, diría que “no fue una muerte individual. Pues enlutó a un pueblo, dado que Mercedes Sosa fue una verdadera elegida, que con palabras simples supo expresar ideas profundas.
Y un aforismo final para esta grande de nuestra canción y para sus ideales que llevó hasta el último momento de su vida.
