| El Congreso de Oklahoma aprobó una ley que prohíbe casi en su totalidad el aborto, incluso en casos de violación o incesto, y aquellas personas que quieran interrumpir su embarazo se enfrentarán a multas de 100.000 dólares y penas de hasta diez años de prisión. La Cámara de Representantes de Oklahoma aprobó, con 70 votos a favor y 14 en contra, la nueva legislación, aunque explicaron que el único caso en el que se realizaría la interrupción sería “para salvar la vida de una mujer embarazada en una emergencia médica”. Al respecto, Jim Olsen, el representante estatal republicano y autor principal de la ley en la Cámara de Representantes, confesó en diálogo con CNN que “la violación y el incesto son un crimen horrible”. Sin embargo, sostuvo que, aunque el bebé haya sido concebido en esa situación, “todavía tiene derecho a la vida”. De esta manera, se sumó a la lista de los estados gobernados por los conservadores, que han adoptado en estos últimos meses restricciones contra el aborto. Oklahoma se convirtió en un importante destino para las mujeres de Texas, estado que también prohibió la interrupción voluntaria después de las seis semanas de embarazo, al igual que Florida, Virginia y Mississipi.
